Christmas Letter 2005:
While Judy’s MS has impacted our lives, we have attempted to not let it control them. She had some deterioration in balance this year and by mid year was fighting fatigue that kept her down for 3 to 5 days a week.
Thanks to Carla, (the one that should have been a doctor) it was determined that Judith had a wheat/gluten allergy. Going wheat free since August has drastically reduced Judy’s fatigue, controlled blood pressure and mitigated a list of other issues.
Consequently, she is able to again do limited house cleaning and for the first time in several years, cookies are being baked and the tree and Christmas decorations are going up. With decorations, the smell of baking and snow on the ground it actually feels like Christmas!
In August we acquired a small electric scooter that can navigate nearly any aisle that you can walk through. It has allowed Judy to attend weddings, football games, MCRD graduation in San Diego, a classic car auction, restaurants and even go shopping.
This years major events included Grant and Carla’s March wedding, Mike’s May graduation, Mark and Meghan’s September wedding and Jason’s September Marine Corp Graduation. We don’t see Matt as often as we would like, but understand he’s doing well at his job and likes his new area of responsibility.
With the Caravan odometer passing 170,000 I realized that this years travels included trips to Kennewick, San Diego and multiple trips to Phoenix, Pomeroy and Laramie. Fortunately, it is a highway cruiser that Judy not only travels well in but also doesn’t mind taking turns at the wheel. We’ve been able to enjoy both the destinations and the travels across Wyoming’s prairie, Arizona’s painted desert and Nebraska’s cornfields.
We look forward to 2006 with the surprises that 5 kids and their partners are sure to bring. Perhaps Carla and Grant will return to Colorado. Perhaps Mike will pop the question and perhaps Kristine will say yes. We expect Jason to begin a tour in Iraq making his contribution to a freedom that many Americans take for granted and would not share with others. We look with anticipation to another political year with precincts to be walked and calls to be made.

Not to long ago, “Happy
Holidays” or “Seasons Greetings” were composite terms to refer
collectively to Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah and New Years. Today these
phrases have acquired politically correct anti-Christian meanings promoted by
those that believe there is no God. Dad used to parse the words of the
Constitution and note that we are blessed with freedom of religion, not freedom
from religion.
Merry
Christmas and may your New Year be filled with many joys.
